THIS PROJECT'S DRIVING QUESTION IS...
WHAT CAN WE TEACH THE WORLD IN FIVE MINUTES OR LESS? In this five week project you will be learning and practicing skills and strategies that all NWP students use on projects. The final creation will be a "How to" video that lays out the steps needed to perform an oft needed NWP skill. Videos will incorporate the following three elements: the step-by-step set of skills, an explanation of why it should be done, and a piece of interesting history about the topic. The entire video will be five minutes or less. PROJECT BENCHMARKS:
Benchmark 1: Sub-Driving Question and Guiding Questions Bridge to B2: Frameworks for Research Working Works Cited framework Outline framework Mini-Lessons: Paraphrasing Mini-lesson Search for and Assess Sources Mini-lesson Notecard Research Mini-lesson Benchmark 2: Research Mini-lessons: Outlining (complete) MLA Works Cited (complete) Shot List (complete) Benchmark 3: Video Creation Benchmark 4: Exhibition Benchmark 5: Critical Reflection BLOG PROMPTS FOR THIS PROJECTBlog #1 What are your highs and lows from week one? Due Monday 8/24 Blog #2 How have you been managing your freedom and responsibilities thus far at Northwest Prep? Due Friday 8/28 Blog #3 The Blogging Guidelines (above) claim that the objective of blogging is "to reflect, and to learn from your reflections." What do you think the teachers mean by "reflect" and how might this help you learn? Give an example from your own experience at NWP. Due Friday 9/4 Blog#4 What are some of the hardest things about working in a group? Discuss them, and be sure to address the ways in which you are dealing with these difficulties. (Remember, no names please.) Due Friday 9/11 Blog #5 Part 1: When learning to do a simple task do you prefer to read a step-by-step process or watch a how-to video? Why might that be? (Answer this before going to Part 2). Part 2: Go back and read over what you just wrote. Dig out one piece of advice to use in the making of your video. State this advice in one to two clear sentences. Due Friday 9/18 Blog #6 For the next project you will have some choice in who your group members are. Step into the shoes of your current group mates. How would they describe YOU as a group member? What might they see that would make them NOT want you in their group again? What qualities do they see that WOULD make them choose you again? Due Friday 9/25 Blog # 7: As we move closer to key deadlines and the exhibition, how are you feeling? Describe your present mindset. Then look back to the beginning of of the project. What do you wish you'd done differently along the way? Why? Due Monday 10/5 Blog #8: Thinking about the next project and the make up of your potential group, what skills do you bring to the table and what skills do you need in group members in order to be successful in the upcoming project? |
